Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals

Their debut rides off the release of the single, "2080/Sunrise" that garnered stacks of nice press quotes. The album is a mesmerizing journey, and quite overwhelming for a premiere release. Live, this group brings out the boogie, radiating heat waves and rhythms.

Girl Talk - Night Ripper 2006

The poster-child of mashups - Girl Talk took the idea of mixing 2 songs into something new and multiplied it to a whole new level.

Current hip hop hits, soft rock radio standards, party classics, grunge masterpieces, R&B singles, glossy club-shakers, and rock anthems are all layered and pieced meticulously together into one non-stop celebration of pop and excess.

Castanets - In the Vines 2007

Easily one of the best folk releases this year but calling it just folk wouldn't do it justice. It reaches a lot of new territory and its something you really have to hear before lumping it into a category with artists like Iron & Wine and Smog.

"In the Vines, combines perfect elements of Tom Waits-inspired folk and sombre alt-country."

The Appleseed Cast - Two Conversations 2003

Another great post-rock release with a well produced, cinematic, and layered sound. This was a follow up to their Low Level Owl release that is considered a cult classic in its genre.

"An ecclectic mix of ambient sounds, thoughtful melodies and droning guitars this album has it all."

Vampire Weekend - Blue CD-R (Demo) 2007

This is the first DIY release from Vampire Weekend that features catchy indie-pop gems. Their influences range from African bands to the Talking Heads. High quality sound for a demo... but thats almost expected these days.

I'm a little late on this one for an indie music blog but for those who haven't heard the hype this band made a few months back, check it out. More info at Contrastream

Moving Mountains - Pneuma 2007

Great post-rock release from a relatively unknown band. I had this in rotation on my ipod for a very long time. Its a very atmospheric sound that reminded me of Appleseed Cast (which I will upload shortly).

Oh and their only 17.. in high school. But you could never tell with such a
quality production.

Enjoy.
